Search then, to find. Nothing at all

I used to despise it... But well. I think I've grown rather attached to the way I think about everything. There is so much untapped potential in it, that I never really took the chance to discover. Well, on to the rarity, my very own blog entry.

Opinions, opinions, opinions. Seems like everyone has suddenly gotten soo very opinionated about lots and lots and lots and lots of stuff. Honestly, at times it feels very forced, as if they're just trying to force an opinion just to stand out and be different. I'm gonna write some things that I think to myself a lot. Singaporeans are such a unique species. We're so fortunate in a lot of things, yet we desire more and more and more and more. We're just really 'uncontent' with our lives for some reason. So much so that the usually clear line between 'wants' and 'needs' has become so very blur that we'd would sacrifice essentials just to get what we 'want'. Which is surprising in fact, as Singapore truly is a beautiful country. I suppose, that to say that about Singaporeans alone, would be an error on my part. But I have yet to see much of the rest of the world and am curious if communities around the world were dissimilar or the same.

I am spoiled. That I will admit. I was born with a silver spoon and am fortunate enough to have rich and kind parents who are willing to cover any cost that I need in my life. But I have also been trained not to be complacent and though I am at times, I know the differences between what I need and what I want. By that, I mean, I need to work for what I want because I feel bad about asking my parents for them. However, I have never been required to work for what I 'need' as that has been provided to me, a great deal of my life. That is how lucky I truly am and that would explain why I'm hardly one to complain about anything financial.

Complaining about people though... That I do a lot. I am an observer. I love to study the typical patterns and routes homo-sapians tend to frequent as well as the equivalent trials and tribulations and mistakes they make. This brings me back to one of the very first things I said up there, "We're just really 'uncontent' with our lives for some reason".

Lots of us have this habit of not finishing the food on our plates. I've been fortunate enough to have been taught to 'not leave even one grain of rice on my plate'. Yet when people see me eat like that, they tell me "WAH, u very hungry ah". I've just been taught to try and prevent any wastage of food especially when people die everyday because of starvation. Its my way of saying, 'I can't do much about the people who are starving everyday, but if it helps their souls, I want them to know that I am not one to take the fact that I am so lucky for granted.'

We rant and complain about material things which wouldn't even be significant to us in the long run. It doesn't do any good to be emotional about things money can buy but we don't need. But still a lot of us do it. People often ask me why I hardly ever buy any clothes, quite simply, Its because I have enough. I should think that I'll be able to last another 2 years or so without buying any clothes except on new years. But maybe, its just cause I'm a guy and we don't really need to care about looks so much. I do know how hard it is not to complain when you covet things. Thats why I have to admit that I'm guilty as well.

We take lots of things for granted and even at times, though its despicable, we scold and refuse to help those who are in need. When I say those who are in need, I really mean those who are in need. A lot of the beggars on the streets are quite capable of finding work, yet they just don't want to. I would help those who have disabilities or handicaps that keep them from work but not always those who seem perfectly able. That said, I would not scold people who beg for help. I am of the same opinion as my parents, if a person is truly in need of help, they would not be asking for money. In fact, they would be happier if you could give them food or a drink. Bearing all this in mind, I have to bring up an occasion a few years back at Lido when I gave a woman $1 for a packet of tissue. She showed me the tissue packet without telling me anything. Well, usually I would give a dollar or so and get one or more packets in exchange. This time, I gave her $1 saying thank you, she gave me one packet of tissue and then asked me for $2 in a language I couldn't understand. So, as I walked away, my friend, KaiXiang, heard her say something to the effect of, "Wanna do good thing also never do properly". I guess I have to admit that I do complain about stuff like that a lot too.

We fear bats and so very many of natures creations who are truly just misunderstood. Bats are not in the least dangerous. In fact, the poor creatures are quite pitiful to say the least. Imagine being born completely blind and having to rely on echoes as opposed to the rays of light we use to see everyday. Quality of life would be oh so very diminished. We would be absolutely paralyzed should there ever be an array of dissonance. The thing that sort of ticks me off is that, a lot of us truly believe that we are above them in so many ways when the truth is, despite having free-will and the ability to think, we still act like them a heck of a lot. So if we really behave just like them, who are we to judge them? The fact is actually, that we do things that are in fact far worse than them. Find me a species on this earth that develops ways and means to destroy millions of their own kind along with billions of other creatures within minutes besides humans and I will retract my previous statement.

So yes, we're an 'uncontent' race. The way I see it there are four kinds of people in this world. 2 of them content and 2 of them 'uncontent'. One would have a complicated mind yet they would desire simplicity, another would seek complications though they are simple in mind. The other 2 are content with who they are and what they have. Unfortunately, it is rare to find people who are perfectly content in this world. Based on this blog post, I leave it to anyones guess, which of the 4 I am.
